Senior Hydrologist Or Water Resource Engineer

Hatfield is seeking an experienced, technically strong and dynamic individual to become part of our growing water resources group. Successful candidates will lead or support the design and implementation of hydrology, climate, and water resource components of Hatfield’s mining, oils sands and infrastructure projects in Alberta, British Columbia, and northern Canada.
This position is full time permanent and would be a combination of office and fieldwork, based out of our Calgary office. Start date is negotiable.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Support and/or lead the development of proposals and business development efforts.
  • Design and implement hydrologic monitoring programs, including hydrometric station installation, data logger programming, surveying and streamflow measurement.
  • Provide technical guidance to clients and liaise with government regulators regarding environmental monitoring, environmental permitting, and assessment.
  • Manage projects and mentor junior staff on project teams.
  • Assess and interpret hydrometric and climate data, and draft technical reports.
  • Work on multidisciplinary teams and projects, and collaborate with Hatfield’s aquatics specialists, hydrogeologists and other environmental specialists.
Competencies:
  • Demonstrated experience with hydrometric, climate, and hydrogeologic monitoring instrumentation, datalogger programming, and telemetry systems.
  • Aptitude and experience in project management and administration.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead / mentor junior staff.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written – including technical and scientific writing.
  • Interest in leading / supporting business development.
  • Appropriate qualifications for work in and Alberta and British Columbia, and a valid Canadian driver’s license.

Required Education and Experience:

  • BSc or higher, in sciences or engineering with some prior formal training (e.g., coursework) in hydrology. A Master’s degree and/or prior experience with climate change assessment and adaptation is desirable.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience including design, coordination, and implementation of hydrometric monitoring programs.
  • Eligible for, or have current, professional designation (e.g. PEng, PGeo, PChem, PAg, etc.).
