Hatfield is seeking an Environmental Technician Construction Monitor Co-Op to join us for a 4 to 8 month term in New Westminster, BC, with potential for a permanent role. This position will join our Infrastructure and Environmental Management (IEM) group. This opportunity is open to current post-secondary students as well as new graduates looking to gain valuable experience in the environmental consulting field.

Responsibilities:
  • Participation in field investigation and monitoring programs.
  • Preparation of permit applications and associated documentation.
  • Literature and data review and collation.
  • Data analysis and interpretation.

Education and Experience:
  • Pursuing a B.Sc. or MSc in environmental science or a related discipline, (e.g., biology, ecology, environmental engineering, forestry, etc.).
  • Experience of scientific data collection and spending time in the field.
  • Training or courses relating to environmental assessment, permitting and environmental management in BC.
  • Other experience that would be an asset includes construction environmental monitoring; soil, sediment, surface and/or groundwater quality sampling; and environmental effects monitoring and reporting.

Other Assets/Skills:
  • Good communication skills.
  • A valid Canadian driver’s license and experience driving a truck.
  • Comfortability around water, including being on barges.
  • Interest in undertaking extensive fieldwork, in a range of weather conditions, including potentially working in remote locations.
  • Ability to work with diverse teams and maintain a positive attitude.
  • Interest in a dynamic consulting environment that requires flexibility and the willingness to potentially work additional or non-standard hours.
  • Attention to detail and an understanding of the importance of adherence to standard operating procedures and data collection, management, and analysis standards.
