We are seeking a Junior Ecotoxicologist to become part of our Environmental Monitoring and Assessment team. The ideal candidate will be resourceful and adaptable with a focus on scientific excellence in a range of areas related to environmental monitoring, permitting, and assessment. The position will entail a variety of field and office-based ecotoxicology, risk assessment, and chemical monitoring studies associated with mining, energy, forest products, ports, municipalities, and site remediation projects across Western Canada.
Responsibilities:
Assist with the development, organization, and implementation of ecotoxicology studies, human health and ecological risk assessments, and environmental effects monitoring programs, including study design, data analysis, and reporting.
Participate in and/or oversee field programs for contaminant investigations and environmental monitoring and assessments of aquatic habitats.
Coordinate contracted work with analytical chemistry and toxicology laboratories.
Draft technical reports.
Compile, manage, and interpret data.
Education and Experience:
Graduate-level research in the fate and effects of chemicals and metals in the environment.
Knowledge of ecotoxicology, risk assessment, and chemical fate and behaviour.
Familiarity with human health and ecological risk assessment approaches and protocols employed in Canada (e.g., BC Tier One Protocol for ERA, BC DERA, FCSAP, Ecological Risk Assessment, Health Canada PQRA and DQRA, and US EPA Superfund).
Knowledge of water quality guidelines and benchmark development protocols in Canada (BC WQGs, BC SBEBs, and CCME WQGs).
Familiarity with federal environmental effects monitoring programs and provincial equivalents.

Ability to work in a dynamic consulting environment that requires flexibility and teamwork.
Excellent problem-solving and coordination skills.
Research and analytical skills (data collection, compilation, and analysis).
Desire to take on greater responsibility and authority with increasing experience.
Excellent verbal and written communication, including technical and scientific writing.
Membership or eligibility for membership as a registered biologist in British Columbia or Alberta.
Must have the ability to drive a pickup truck and have held a valid driver’s license for the past three years with a clean driving abstract.
