We are seeking an Environmental Technician to join our Infrastructure Environmental Management (IEM) team. The candidate will have a minimum of two years of field experience after graduation with a diploma or degree. This is primarily a field-based position.
Responsibilities:
Primarily participate in field investigations and construction monitoring programs and reporting locally with flexibility to support our offices in Fort St John, Terrace, and Fort MacLeod.
Work long hours during busy months and on weekends when required.
Assist with data analysis and interpretation.
Education and Experience:
A minimum of 2 years of field experience in construction environmental monitoring.
Relevant technical diploma, undergraduate degree, or equivalent with appropriate qualifications for work in BC.
Eligibility to apply for Applied Science Technologist (AScT) designation within 6-12 months.
Experience interpreting and working with federal and provincial environmental regulatory and permitting requirements associated with infrastructure projects.
Experience working successfully with large, multi-disciplinary heavy civil construction teams.
Experience in and working with a range of environmental disciplines (e.g., air quality, noise, surface and groundwater quality, soils, erosion and sediment control, vegetation, fish and fish habitat, contaminated sites, archaeology, Indigenous communities, etc.) is an asset.
Direct experience as a construction environmental monitor, with exposure to erosion and sediment control, water quality, fish salvage, bird nesting surveys, and acoustic monitoring.
Other Assets/Skills:
A valid Canadian driver’s license for the past three years, experience driving a pickup truck and the ability to meet the requirements for our third-party automobile insurance policy.
Excellent problem-solving skills to ensure project delivery and compliance through creative and adaptable solutions.
Capable of working and communicating with multi-disciplinary project teams.
Ability to obtain permits, licenses, and approvals from local, provincial, and federal authorities as well as ability to write weekly reports, EMPs, etc.
Understanding of pertinent environmental legislation, regulations, and guidance documents.
Excellent communication (verbal and technical writing) skills and time management.
