  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to collect data to assess potential project-related and/or climate change-related impacts on environmental resources and values. This will include providing support for a variety of environmental monitoring programs, potentially including but not limited to water resources (e.g., hydrometric, water quality, hydrogeological, climate), aquatic biology, fish biology, wildlife biology, and construction environmental monitoring. Work will be conducted under the supervision of experienced Hatfield staff.

  • Support ongoing data management and reporting functions.

Competencies:

  • Ability to work in teams of technicians with varying levels of experience and maintain a positive attitude.
  • Ability and interest to undertake extensive fieldwork, in a range of weather conditions, including working in remote locations and on programs that may require camp stays over multiple days.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic consulting environment that requires flexibility and the willingness to work overtime in support of field programs.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and an understanding of the importance of adherence to field standard operating procedures and good data collection.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Pursuing a B.Sc. or technical diploma in sciences or engineering. Some prior formal training (e.g., coursework) in environmental science is considered an asset.
  • Appropriate qualifications for work in Alberta and a valid Canadian driver’s license.
  • Experience related to a specific environmental field (e.g., fish biology, hydrology or hydrogeology) is desirable but not required.
  • Comfortable using technology and a desire to learn how to operate environmental monitoring systems such as dataloggers.
  • Other experience that would be an asset includes: construction environmental monitoring; soil, sediment, surface and groundwater quality sampling; and environmental effects monitoring and reporting.
