Senior Social Science Specialist

Hatfield’s Human Environment Group is a small, tight-knit team of social science specialists with a broad range of interests and experience in social impact assessment; Indigenous interests and engagement; land use planning; social determinants of health; gender studies; and climate change risks and resilience.

We are seeking a mid-career professional with experience working with Indigenous people and communities to join our team.
You are a team-player with strong technical skills in social science and/or related disciplines. You are a great (or at least very good!) writer and communicator, well organized, client focused, and solutions oriented. A good sense of humour is an asset.

We are especially interested in candidates with a background or experience working in one or more of the following areas:
 
  • Indigenous interests and engagement
  • Indigenous knowledge studies
  • Climate change impacts and adaptation (including vulnerability and risk assessment
  • Land-use, environmental or community planning
  • Gender based analysis (GBA Plus) methodologies
  • Social determinants of health
  • Social and economic impact assessment
  • Social statistics and quantitative analysis
  • Monitoring and evaluation (M&E)
  • Economic analysis or econometrics   
 
Responsibilities:
In this role, you will work independently and with teams of social and environmental professionals on a variety of projects, across multiple sectors, and with a broad range of clients. You will provide technical expertise and contribute to the delivery of projects and business development.

Specific activities will include supporting or, where appropriate, leading:
  • Planning, organization, and delivery of stakeholder and Indigenous engagement processes and activities;
  • Research design and implementation;
  • Data analysis and report writing;
  • Proposal development;
  • Developing and managing client relationships
  • Networking and business development.
Desired education, attributes, and experience:
You have:
  • A graduate degree and 5+ years’ of related professional experience;
  • Background or experience in one or more social science or related interdisciplinary or natural science fields
  • Technical ability in the preparation and delivery of social science research including research design, data collection, compilation and analysis;
  • Excellent skills in technical and other forms of written communication (e.g., training materials or community outreach);
  • Excellent oral communication skills (e.g., networking, facilitation, and community engagement);
You are:
  • Inquisitive and entrepreneurial;
  • Comfortable operating in a dynamic environment that requires flexibility and teamwork, and working to deadlines and within budgets;
  • Organized and a strong critical thinker;
  • Open to potential travel, including internationally, and occasional work in remote locations and communities as required.

Salary: $72,000-$115,000. We extend an invitation to applicants of all levels to submit their candidacy for this role. Please be advised, that in the course of our assessment of your qualifications, we retain the right to adjust the seniority classification of the position accordingly.
